Gethin Long with a beautiful orange coloured Mirror Carp

Nineoaks Fishery's Coarse fish catch return for last 10 days.

Although the weather has become autumnal fishing continues to be good. Best bait has been fresh (not pickled) Prawn or Muscles. Regularly taking over 20 fish in a session. Luncheon meat continues to be a favourite has has recently caught a 2 1/2lb Tench which is good for this time of the year. Our novices pool is now open and has already been frequently fished by kids and families who regularly catch good fish with the occasional surprise "bonus" fish such as a Koi carp. The new "house" coarse lake has produced some fine Carp (up to 10lbs) and Roach (upto 2lb), while the main coarse lake has recently produced a quality Mirror-Koi for Gethin Long of Swansea. That is a Mirror Carp hybridised with an Orange Koi - a beautiful fish. Also, Peter Clayton of Llangranog caught a large mirror which bottomed a pair of 26lb scales!

On Sunday November 21st 2004 a Coarse Match is planned. The match will take place in one of our Trout lakes. For further details call or email Nineoaks Fishery.

December 2004

December 2004 with the Welsh Ladies team

During the past week weather has been settled and pleasant with the occassional slight drizzle. Fishing has been quiet because we have been quiet. However, those that came had good sport. Bryan Scott from Aberystwyth had 10 Carp in a session with the biggest at 14lb (picture attached.) mainly caught on sausage meat. While Nick had 7 carp with the biggest estimated at 7lb, all caught on slowly sinking bread.

Meanwhile on the Trout Lakes we had a visit from the Welsh International Ladies team for a days "Ladies bonding", there being a few newcomers you understand. Everyone except their Captain caught fish. Best fish on the day was a 6lb 2oz beauty caught by Simone Jones of Llysyfron. Earlier in the week Vic Primer from Welshpool had a nice 4 1/2lb'er while his fishing partner John Davies had a catch and release session returning 30 fish that included 4 1/2 and 5 1/2lb'ers. A super day by any standards. Team photo attached.

Although the weather has been very wet and cool, fly fishing has been excellent with most anglers catching their limit. John Davies of Montgomery caught 20 fish in a 5 hour session including Rainbows of 6 and 7lb. Eric Davies of Llandysul had one of 3lb 9oz while Jean Leonard of Aberaeron caught one of 4 3/4lb. Killing patterns have in the main been Montanas, Damsels, Olives, Black Buzzers, Orange Fritz and Silver fry. While, very small black flies fished just sub-surface have caught many fish. Our last "open" was won, again, by Jean Leonard with a 2 fish bag of 6lb 11oz with Eric Davies second on 5 1/2lb.

The next "open" Trout match will be the last Sunday of December (26th) and the last Sunday of each month thereafter.

Bryan from Aberystwyth with an 11lb Common

2. Coarse

Although the weather has turned cooler and become more inclement our well sheltered site is still producing some prolific fishing. Our main Coarse lake produced excellent Carp catches; Eric Scoberg of Swansea caught 22 Carp upto 18lb plus a nice Tench. While his fishing partner, Gethin Long also of Swansea, had 18 Carp including 3 doubles. Best baits were double fresh prawn. Another angler from Llanwenog on a cold day had a catch that included 14 Carp on Dog Food and 11 Tench including one of 2 1/2lb all on flake. The cooler weather hasn't put the Carp off feeding on floating or gently sinking bread with many good catches being reported. Our coarse "open" was won by 7 year old Ross McCreedie fron Pontgarreg, his winning bag included 9 Trout.

The next "open" coarse match will be on Sunday of December 19th and the 3rd Sunday of each month thereafter.
